Health & Nutrition
He Waka Tapu offers a wide range of health & nutrition services to whanau and whanau whanui. Through our health professionals and our Registered Nurse Don Cross (Nga Puhi) we can develop personalised health plans with you and your whanau and help support you to achieve identified goals.
We have just recently developed a Fitness & Exercise Room complete with a treadmill, exercycle, crosstrainer and other assorted exercise and resistance equipment. Our kaimahi are available throughout the week to supervise individuals exercise regimes. This gym has now moved to Watsons Rd as we work more closely with the Wai-ora Trust. Don has also re-located his office there and runs a number of programmes from this new facility.
Tania Wharehinga also co-ordinates a number of Gentle Exercise programmes throughout Christchurch each week, ranging from dance movement classes to walking groups to healthy cooking demonstrations. These classes run each school term and all have an aim to get people active and moving in a safe and healthy way whilst having some fun. Contact Tania for more information.
Rangatahi Health Promotion
He Waka Tapu is also active in our schools. Utilising an ancient Maaori martial art 'Mau Rakau' we encourage our rangatahi (young people) to exercise whilst learning a little more about things Maaori. Classes are held twice a week for up to an hour and are open to both genders and to children of all backgrounds.
This programme has proved very popular with schools and is in great demand, as we have only a limited number of qualified / experienced workers in this field you would need to contact the office and ask to see Hone for further information.
