National Cervical Screening Programme & Breast Screening Programme
We are a team within He Waka Tapu and we are an Independent Service Provider
Our role is to increase the participation rates of wahine on both cervical and breast screening programmes
The funds are received from the NSU - National Screening Unit, Ministry of Health
What we have to offer:
Cervical Screening Clinics
We have a regular monthly clinic at Hornby surgery.
There are various clinics at different locations throughout the year.
(E.g. Kaiapoi Plunket, Rehua Marae)
We also provide cervical screening in the home for
-Older women
-More voluptuous women
-Women with disabilities/illnesses
Support to Services
Transport for women to a cervical screening clinic or GP Clinic
Transport and support women to Colposcopy
Transport and support women to Mammography (fixed or mobile)
Support women to additional investigation and surgery
We also offer support, assistance and transport to treatment and follow up

Education sessions
Presentations

The Criteria for these services:
National Cervical Screening Programme – Women (but specifically Maori wahine) from 20-69 years in the CDHB region (Ashburton to Kaikoura)
Breast Screening Aotearoa – Women (but specifically Maori wahine) from 45-70 years in the CDHB region (Ashburton to Kaikoura)
The NSU have dictated the criteria for these services which are:-
Women who have never had a cervical smear,
Women who have not had a cervical smear in for more than 5 years,
Maori and Pacific Island Women,
Women aged between 45 – 69 years old who are not enrolled on the Breast Screening Register.
