Tane Tukino
As mentioned He Waka Tapu is a Family Court accredited provider for delivering a Stopping Violence Programme for men aged 18 years and older. Currently this is provided through our Tane Tukino programme. This is a mandated group which runs for 12 weeks.
We also offer a range of other programmes for tane ( men) and wahine(women) wanting to address the violence within their whanau (family) and personal relationships.
Te Whariki
Te Whariki is a 20 session open programme for Maori men who will undertake a personal journey as a part of a team to eliminate violence and the abuse of alcohol and other drug use. For some men this will involve the full 20 sessions whilst for others, the successful end of their journey may occur earlier. Two programme cycles will operate each year with men been able to start part way through one cycle and continuing into the next until completion.
Nga Ara Tika
This is a 10 week progrmme designed for wahine (women) who are also wanting to address issues of personal violence and get a greater understanding of the forms of violence in their lives both as victims and perpetrators. The korero focusses on a number of issues such as helping participants to look at self esteem, confidence, communication and boundaries within their relationships.
The importance of understanding aspects of Mauri Wahine what it means to be wahine, to be a mother (whare tangata) to reach your full potential He wahine Toa. Inviting them to look at Ko wai koe, No hea koe. Nga Ara Tika challenges our thinking and provides tools to put into our kete of knowledge.
Wahine are also invited to participate in our waka ama course where they begin to get a greater understanding of our Waka Korero and where they sit within that waka and the importance of that and how those choices are made.
This programme is for wahine aged 18 - 80 and we run four each year. To ensure that you can fully participate in each session we have four wahine ataahua to look after our tamariki for each session.
