Matariki: Setting Intentions for a Healthier Tomorrow
17 / 06 / 2025
Matariki is a powerful time of new beginnings, a moment to clear space for fresh ideas, renewed energy, and shared aspirations. As the stars align in the winter sky, they remind us to pause, reflect on the past year, and intentionally set our sights on the future ahead.

Celebrating Matariki at He Waka Tapu
At He Waka Tapu, this season inspires us to think deeply about the intentions we hold for our whānau, our communities, and our collective wellbeing. Intentions are more than just hopes, they are commitments.
They give shape and direction to our actions and ensure that our mahi is grounded in purpose.
Setting intentions during Matariki is an opportunity to connect with these values and reflect on how they can be woven more deeply into our services and programmes. It’s a call to innovate, to listen harder, and to ensure every whānau member feels seen, heard, and supported.
"For many in Aotearoa, the coming year presents challenges, from ongoing health inequities to rising demand for services and new social pressures. But it is also a time ripe with possibility. Possibility to create systems that are culturally responsive, community-led, and holistic."
Our intention is to meet whānau where they are, walking alongside them on their healing journeys with empathy and respect. To invest in education and workforce development that prepares future health leaders who embody the spirit of Matariki, resilient, connected, and visionary.
As the stars of Matariki shine brightly, let us all take a moment to set our own intentions for a healthier, more equitable future. What commitments will you make to yourself, your whānau, and your community in this new year? How can we come together to turn intention into action?
Together, we can nurture hope, ignite change, and build a future that honours our past while embracing the possibilities ahead.
