Ōrua Paeroa Travis Wetland Whānau Hīkoi

(CCC WALKING FEST)

27 / 04 / 2025

On Sunday, 27th April, we set off on a group hīkoi exploring Ōrua Paeroa, Travis Wetland. This event marked the conclusion of our three-part series in this year's Christchurch City Council Walking Festival, which was wonderfully held over the Easter break.

Connection and Community

While not everyone who registered could attend, those who did were warmly welcomed into our space with karakia, meaningful kōrero, a scenic hīkoi, and delicious kai. It was a lovely surprise to have some whānau unexpectedly join us, making the trip to the Wetlands even more special.

The event began with inspiring words from Pani and Taryn, who guided participants along the 3.5 km track. After the hīkoi, attendees enjoyed a shared BBQ and an Easter egg hunt for the Tamariki. We also had spot prizes for questions related to Ōruapaeroa, adding an element of fun and learning to the day.

Congratulations to the fortunate winners of our grocery hamper and the “guess how many eggs in the basket” draws!

This event would not have been possible without the support from the CCC Strengthening Communities Fund and the Immunising our Tamariki Fund.

Me Mahi Tahi Tātou

A huge thank you to the amazing kaimahi who made this event a success: Pani, Taryn, Amy, Zach, Kathleen, Matile, Nikki, Lucas, Karena, and Jaden. Your manaakitanga was clear, and each of you played a vital role in making the day memorable.

“Tama tu tama ora, tama noho tama mate” – standing strong together brings life and vitality.

Looking ahead, we are thrilled to announce our upcoming Matariki Event at He Waka Tapu on Sunday, 22nd June. More details will be shared soon.

Stay tuned, and we hope to see you there!
