PAE ORA 2025

Whānau Fun Run / Walk

PAE ORA 2025 IS A WRAP!

Pae Ora has wrapped up for another year, and we were lucky to be blessed with a beautiful day, especially after the rough weather the weekend before. With more than 930 registrations in total and plenty of whānau turning up on the day, the event had a real buzz from start to finish.

This year saw even more activities and spaces for tamariki and whānau to enjoy. Our friends at YCD (Youth Cultural Development) and the FRESH crew returned to run the BBQ, serving more than 1,100 sausages and 200 patties. They also helped bring together four of the five barbers and the braiding station, which were a huge hit. George “Host from the Coast” Read and DJ Danny-Ill kept the atmosphere pumping throughout the day.

A massive mihi to the funders and event partners who make Pae Ora possible. Rātā Foundation and Christchurch City Council backed the kaupapa again this year, and we were supported by Adrain from Active QT who set up the hīkoi track, Jo from the Heart Foundation, Jesse from Hāpai, Lisia from the Cancer Society, Anna and Jessica from Speed Freaks, Denver and Isaac from MPI, Thomas and Kati from Whai Rawa, Wendy and Nora from Christchurch City Libraries, Laura and Ash from Envirohub, the team from Tūhono Taonga Tūhono Tāngata on the Pounamu Van, Zarian, Luke, Scott and the crew on barbering, braiding by LuLu of Lulu’s House of Braids, Sam from Porkchop LTD capturing videography, Clive from Pedalmania, and Event Hire and Kiwicoffee for inflatables and refreshments. Every contribution helped create a meaningful experience for whānau.

Planning will begin soon for Pae Ora 2026, which will land in He Waka Tapu’s 30th anniversary year.

Mauri tū, mauri ora!

Feedback from this years evenmt

"I always do this with my whānau to improve our Hauora. My mum trains for this and it motivates her to get out and walk"

"Introduced to this hikoi through my daughter’s mahi, we have participated for three years now and I love getting together with whanau for such a great event"

"At last year's Pae Ora I was 3 weeks post ACL surgery but I still managed to walk the entire distance. I made it my goal to be running by the next one and this year I did. It has also become an annual event for our whānau and have 3 generations taking part each year which we love!"

"All my life I have struggled with my weight and this year before I turn 21 I made the decision to put my hauora first and this was one example of doing that for me this year. I didn’t do it with my whānau last year because I felt inadequate so this year I wasn’t going to miss out and took a leap of faith."
