Pink Ribbon Breakfast 2025

This morning we gathered with our whānau and community for a special Pink Ribbon Breakfast here at He Waka Tapu. It was a powerful and heartfelt way to come together, share kai, and raise awareness for breast cancer, a kaupapa that touches so many lives.
We were honoured to hear from three incredible wāhine who shared their stories with strength and honesty. Whaea Max spoke about her own journey with breast cancer, reminding us of the importance of early detection and staying connected to your own wellbeing. Tiana Te Moana shared her experience supporting her mum through breast cancer, and the role Rongoā Māori played in their healing. Sarah Marshall, a charge nurse whose mum is also on a cancer journey, offered both professional and personal insights that many could relate to.
We were also lucky to be joined by Mahalia Simpson, whose beautiful voice and presence added something really special to the morning.
Events like this are a reminder of how important it is to look after our health, to have these kōrero, and to support each other. A huge thank you to everyone who came along, contributed, and helped us raise pūtea for the Breast Cancer Foundation. Every bit counts.

What is Pink Ribbon about?
The Pink Ribbon Breakfast is a fundraising campaign in New Zealand that supports the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. Individuals, workplaces, and groups host breakfasts, morning teas, or other meals during May to raise money for breast cancer education, research, and patient support. The funds raised help the Breast Cancer Foundation in its mission to reduce breast cancer deaths and improve the lives of those affected by the disease.
