Hauora Day at Hakatere Marae

The rain finally cleared just in time for Hauora Day at Hakatere Marae on Friday, 14th June. An uplifting reminder of te taiao aligning with the kaupapa of the day. The event was a vibrant celebration of hauora (wellbeing), whanaungatanga (connection), and community held within the welcoming embrace of Hakatere marae.
Engaging With The Community!
We set up a service desk to share information about the supports and services we offer. We also provided a range of tamariki-friendly games that brought lots of laughter and engagement throughout the day. One of the more popular activities was “Guess the Cost of the Fruit Basket” a fun and healthy twist that got people thinking.
Martha Daniels and Rachel Tahuri did a fantastic job as MCs, keeping the programme flowing and the wairua high. The day featured a variety of cultural and interactive activities, haka competitions, Matariki kōrero, kanikani, and waiata. All contributing to the strengthening of mātauranga Māori and cultural identity. A highlight was the performance by the local Hakatere Marae kapa haka group, whose waiata filled the space with pride and aroha.
Live entertainment was also provided by Twin Harmony, whose performance added to the uplifting wairua of the day.
He Waka Tapu kaimahi Gina, Trudy, Jools, Cheri, Leo, and Annette were all in attendance, ensuring our space was well-hosted, connecting with other services, and helping to support the smooth running of the day. Our HWT Wahine Ora Nurses Wikitoria and Tessela were amazing with their Information and Cervical Screening throughout the afternoon. This important Houora / Matariki Whanau Event in Collaboration with the Hakatere Marae ensured that whaiora and whānau felt welcomed, informed, and uplifted.
Overall, Hauora Day was a powerful expression of manaakitanga and kotahitanga. A day where the community came together to celebrate wellbeing, culture, and connection under the spirit of Matariki.
