HAKATERE WHĀNAU DAY 2025
22 / 11 / 2025
The Hakatere (Ashburton) community recently came together to enjoy Whānau Fun Day, an event focused on connection, culture and community spirit.

Community Comes Together for Whānau Day in Hakatere!
Hakatere Whānau Day once again brought our community together for a fun, relaxed, whānau-centred day at the Ashburton Domain. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., tamariki and whānau enjoyed a full line-up of activities, kai, and entertainment, supported by an incredible group of local organisations and services.
This year we were joined by Sport Canterbury, who rolled in with their activity trailer, NZ Police with their dress-up gear and patrol car, RRT providing kai throughout the day, Hakatere Marae running an interactive treasure hunt, and ECO Educate sharing practical recycling and sustainability info. We were also supported by UHIRE, Cancer Society, Te Whatu Ora, Heart Foundation, and Mid Canterbury Rugby, each bringing their own flavour and resources to help make the day a success.
The hard work of Hakatere kaimahi set the foundation, with many working behind the scenes to ensure a smooth, welcoming experience for all. Tamariki took full advantage of the hands-on activities and outdoor space, while whānau connected with providers, enjoyed the sunshine, and shared time together. With a special mention to our amazing Kapahaka rōpū that filled the air with their beautiful voices.
The heart of the day was, as always, the people—those who showed up, those who contributed, and those who made sure every whānau felt included. The turnout reflected the strong community spirit across Hakatere, with plenty of smiles, laughter, and memories made.
Events like Hakatere Whānau Day are only possible thanks to the generosity, collaboration, and dedication of our local partners and the He Waka Tapu team. Ngā mihi nui to everyone who came along and to all who helped bring this special day to life. We look forward to seeing our whānau again at future kaupapa.
