HWT Hakatere at Relay for Life 2026.
On Saturday 21st March 2026, He Waka Tapu (HWT) Hakatere proudly joined the wider Ashburton community at Relay for Life 2026, held at the Ashburton Showgrounds.
Relay for Life is one of the Cancer Society's most beloved fundraising events, bringing communities together to celebrate those who have faced cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back through awareness and fundraising. Teams keep a baton moving around the track throughout the day and night a powerful symbol of the unstoppable fight against cancer.
Our kaimahi walked laps throughout the day carrying a special baton handcrafted by Te Koare and his whānau especially for He Waka Tapu Hakatere, a beautiful and meaningful touch that made our team's participation truly unique.
With a fundraising goal of $1,000, our team came together in an incredible effort, raising $928.00 through our online Relay for Life page and a popular stall selling plates of kai, cupcakes, and slushies that kept people coming back all day and into the evening.
Keeping the tamariki entertained between laps were games kindly donated to HWT Ashburton by Menzshed Ashburton, a generous contribution that helped make the day enjoyable for the whole whānau.
A huge mihi to all our kaimahi for their hard mahi, their enthusiasm, and their heart. It was a truly successful event and a proud moment for our team. Together, we're helping to ensure that no one faces cancer alone.
